An Evening With Gary Staab: Bronze Bison Installation
Bison are coming back to the National Mall! More than 100 years ago, real bison grazed outside the Smithsonian Castle. This spring, three larger than life bronze bison created by paleoartist and sculptor Gary Staab will welcome visitors entering the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History from the National Mall for generations to come after a week-long, cross-country stampede from a foundry in Colorado.
Join the National Museum of Natural History’s Sant Director Kirk Johnson for a conversation with Staab about the bronze bison and the significance of the symbolic return of the national mammal to Washington, D.C. The arrival of the bronze bison and the conversation set the stage for the new exhibition, Bison: Standing Strong, opening on May 7th, which celebrates the United States’ 250th and explores the enduring cultural and ecological legacy of American bison.
Registration is free and highly encouraged. Space is filled on a first come first served basis.
