Ella Fitzgerald’s virtuosic scatting ability combined with her clear, yet emotional sound and impeccable range has made her one of the most innovative and beloved figures in the history of jazz. She continues to be a source of inspiration for jazz musicians of all kinds, vocalists or instrumentalists, and her music from her nearly six-decade career continues to resonate around the world. 
 
Come and celebrate Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday at the National Museum of American History with several daytime programs including: “Ella Fitzgerald in 10 Photos” a panel discussion with museum curators Krystal Klingenberg and Shannon Perich, objects out of storage from the Ella Fitzgerald collection, and a workshop on vocal jazz and scatting by Howard University Professor of Vocal Jazz Reginald Bowens, as well as a musical performance featuring Howard University’s SAAsy vocal ensemble to follow.
