Teen Studio: On My Block
Teens: Ready to level up your art? Join us for Teen Studio, a free art-making program exclusively for teens ages 13–19. Push your artistic boundaries using materials and techniques inspired by artists whose work is now on view at the Hirshhorn.
Every weekend in May, Teen Studio will explore boundary-breaking artists in the Hirshhorn collection who used color to bring their ideas to life. This Saturday, we’ll look closely at Aliza Nisenbaum’s Mis cuatro gracias (Brendan, Camilo, Carlos, Jorge) (2018). Then we’ll head back to Art School to practice linocut stamp carving with guest artist Rose Jaffe. We’ll work with repetition and pattern building by using the stamps to print on canvas tote bags.
Guest Artist Rose Jaffe
Rose Jaffe is a visual artist focused on the power of art to build community, promote healing, and spark joy. Rose earned her BFA at the University of Michigan and has pursued a creative career full time after teaching middle and high school art. She has painted more than 50 murals nationally and internationally, including over 40 in her hometown of Washington, DC. Her art has been featured in numerous publications, including the Washington Post and City Paper, and has appeared on NBC and CNN, among other outlets. Her work is vibrant and often playful, with themes of political activism, nature, human connection, and social change.
Please note: This Teen Studio workshop will run two hours, from 2:30 to 4:30 PM.

ABOUT TEEN STUDIO
Teens ages 13–19 are invited to hang out and get creative at the Hirshhorn’s Teen Studio, a free series of art-making workshops offered from 2:30 to 4 PM every Saturday. All skill levels are welcome—from the novice notebook doodler to the experienced teen artist, there’s something for everyone!
Each month, we’ll dive into a fresh theme inspired by artists on view. Each workshop will offer a mix of time in the galleries, where we’ll encounter groundbreaking artists, and time in Art School, where we’ll experiment with new media and materials. Whether you’re into painting, sculpture, 3D design, animation, or something else, you’ll get hands-on experience and unlock new creative skills.
If there are services or accommodations that can improve your experience (e.g., ASL interpretation, live captioning, etc.), please contact HMSGEducation@si.edu. We appreciate receiving such requests at least one to two weeks in advance.
