Join us at the Museum for a special screening of Do You Remember?, a film celebrating the extraordinary career of Clive Davis and the music that has shaped generations. One of the most influential executives in modern music, Davis built his legacy in close collaboration with Black artists, producers, and entrepreneurs whose creativity transformed the soundscape of American culture.

With a remarkable ear for talent and a willingness to invest in it, Davis played a pivotal role in identifying, developing, and elevating artists at defining moments in their careers, including Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Earth, Wind & Fire, Dionne Warwick, Luther Vandross, Gladys Knight, Sly and the Family Stone, Jennifer Hudson, TLC, Toni Braxton, Monica, Usher, Deborah Cox, Fantasia, Ray Parker Jr., and OutKast. He also contributed to the careers of jazz innovators, including Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock.

Early in his career, Davis forged a groundbreaking partnership between Columbia Records and legendary songwriters and producers Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, helping bring the Philadelphia soul sound to national audiences through artists such as The O'Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, and Billy Paul. He later supported the growth and visibility of Black-led ventures, including Philadelphia International Records and LaFace Records, helping bring visionary artists and new business models to mainstream audiences.

At the heart of this story are the enduring contributions of Black musicians and music innovators whose artistry shaped soul, R&B, pop, funk, jazz, and hip-hop, and continues to influence generations around the world. Many of the artists represented in this film are also featured in the Museum’s Musical Crossroads exhibition, where their stories and cultural impact are preserved through objects, media, and interactive experiences.

Throughout the screening, Harvey Mason Jr., renowned songwriter, producer, and CEO of The Recording Academy, will join Davis in a live conversation. Together, they will reflect on creative visioning, artistic partnership, and the lasting impact of the Black artists whose talent and innovation continue to define the soundtrack of our lives.

Do You Remember? is produced by Mark Ronson, Erich Bergen, and DJ Earworm, with associate producers Marc Johnston and Stacy Carr.
