District Treasures: Celebrating Historically Black Colleges and Universities
Register to attend a one-on-one session with preservation specialists and receive a professional review of your family treasures and heirlooms. As our guests, you will gain insight into the historical significance of your items and learn best practices to assist in preserving your personal collections for generations to come.
This special session is inspired by the exhibition At the Vanguard: Making and Saving History at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Visitors are especially encouraged to bring items related to HBCU history, traditions, student life, scholarship, athletics, and community legacy.
Note: Visitors are welcome to bring any cherished family objects, photographs, documents, textiles, quilts, books or collectibles for review with a special request for items related to HBCU history.
Invite your family, classmates, and friends to join you during this special review session.
All attendees will receive a Treasures Starter Kit and sample archival supplies to begin preserving their own family history collections at home.
Registration is free and opens June 1, 2026.
