Seek and You Shall Find: Leonardo's Lost Battle of Anghiari

Leonardo da Vinci’s 1503 commission for Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio—an oil-based mural of the Battle of Anghiari—failed when his experimental technique caused the paint to drip. Giorgio Vasari later painted over it, adding the cryptic cerca trova—seek and you shall find.
