American Stories: Artists’ Books from Smithsonian Libraries and Archives
How would you tell your story? Works by more than 50 American artists explore identity, community, and history though the medium of the artist’s book. These works of art—each inspired by the form or function of the book—offer distinct perspectives on the American experience.
American Stories includes recent acquisitions by emerging contemporary artists alongside works by established figures in American art, such as Sol LeWitt, Adrian Piper, and Ed Ruscha. Some of the works on display are one of a kind and are only found in the Smithsonian Libraries and Archives. Together, they highlight the artist's book as a form for storytelling, reflection, and creative expression.
